Men were as sheep who’d gone astray
All residents were on that way
Which seemed so easy, was so bright
As if God’s Heaven poured its light

Onto the earth from high above
But no – the dark or parts thereof
Created something similar
That birthed the hellish minister

A man who looked so fine and pure
That many thought, “A saint, for sure!”
He left the church for prophet’s call
And lost direction once for all

“How can this be?” might someone ask
“Why didn’t he fulfill his task?”
This story, oh, alas – it’s true
Could also speak of me and you

Please, be aware of Satan’s lie
Who says there’s nothing to deny
As long as you’re outside the crowd
“Awake, o man, lest you get proud!”

A pilgrim’s call will make it clear
We’ll share His disgrace in the rear
Of those who stand tall on their feet
And sit with comfort in their seat

It’s not our job to shout them down
Who show a shake of head or frown
Whenever we stand up and claim
To be His mouthpiece – that is vain

We ought to give our best for those
Who do not know our Lord that close
Instead, if one demands our life
We’ll leave it for Him without strife.

A prophet who is truly sent
Will as a pilgrim, not a gent
Love everyone who walks his way
And thus exhale our Lord’s bouquet

    Susanne,
Your have described the current state of Christendom to a tee in your poem. Here are some thoughts that came to me and scriptures to go with it…

Men were as sheep who’d gone astray
All residents were on that way
Which seemed so easy, was so bright
As if God’s Heaven poured its light

Jesus said, “”Go in through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is spacious that leads to destruction, and many people are entering by it. How narrow is the gate and how constricted is the road that leads to life, and few are the people who find it!” (Matthew 7:13-14 ISV). And in Proverbs we read, “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” (Proverbs 14:12 RSVA).

Onto the earth from high above
But no – the dark or parts thereof
    Created something similar
    That birthed the hellish minister

A man who looked so fine and pure
That many thought, “A saint, for sure!”

Paul warned of such men coming into the church saying, “Such people are false apostles, dishonest workers who are masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, since Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. So it is not surprising if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their doom will match their deeds! (2 Corinthians 11:13-15 ISV).
These men are easy to spot for they seek the chief seats in our synagogues (churches) and their pride is paraded before us as if it is a virtue.

He left the church for prophet’s call
And lost direction once for all

“How can this be?” might someone ask
“Why didn’t he fulfill his task?”

Please, be aware of Satan’s lie
Who says there’s nothing to deny
As long as you’re outside the crowd
“Awake, o man, lest you get proud!”

Paul warned, “I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.” (Acts 20:29-30 RSVA). John also warned of these who seek the preeminence among the saints of God saying, “They left us, but they were not part of us, for if they had been part of us, they would have stayed with us. They simply made it clear that none of them was really part of us.” (1 John 2:19 ISV). These men come out from among the people of God in their common fellowship and rise up and seek to rule over them. This is Satanic in origin. Satan himself did the same thing! “How are you fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how are you cut down to the ground, who did weaken the nations! For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the farthest sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” (Isaiah 14:12-14 KJ2000). Ezekiel also saw this saying, “You are the anointed cherub that covers; and I have set you so: you were upon the holy mountain of God… O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty, you have corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor: I will cast you to the ground.” (Ezekiel 28:14-17 KJ2000).

A prophet who is truly sent
Will as a pilgrim, not a gent
Love everyone who walks his way
And thus exhale our Lord’s bouquet

Yes, it is the way of the lowly pilgrim we are called to on this earth (read Hebrews 11:13-16). What is the Lord’s bouquet? What is the fragrance of the Lord? In the gospel of Mark we read of something that was precious to Jesus that was done for Him,

While Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon the leper and sitting at the table, a woman arrived with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume made from pure nard. She broke open the jar and poured the perfume on his head. Some who were there said to one another in irritation, “Why was the perfume wasted like this? This perfume could have been sold for more than 300 denarii and the money given to the destitute.” So they got extremely angry with her. But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing for me… Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told as a memorial to her.” (Mark 14:3-9 ISV)

You see, what Mary did not only spoke of her extravagant love for Jesus, but He acknowledged that she did a beautiful thing in His sight and that this act should go forth with the gospel. The accounts makes it clear that the jar had to be broken open for the Lord to be blessed. It was not opened so it could be closed again and a little dab put on Jesus, but the whole thing was poured out on Him at great expense. We also must be broken and poured out for the Lord if we are to be empowered as we go forth with the gospel of the kingdom. We must be wasted upon Jesus in the eyes of the world. Extravagant love for Him is always considered a waste by the worldly mind. “Why do you spend your whole life serving Jesus, Why don’t you use your talents to do something productive that brings in money?” they say. A person can waste there lives pursuing riches and fame, but woe to the person who “wastes” their lives with their head upon His breast listening to His heart. This kind of a sacrifice is a sweet smelling savor to the Lord. These are the true pilgrims of the HIS kingdom.

WOO-HOO! Michael, this is EXCELLENT [No, I am NOT yelling at you – 😉 ]!!!

However, I am not yet sure whether your comments are a biblically founded poem
analysis or a new blog post in themselves?

      🙂

Thank you, dear sister! Reading the inspired writings of other saints and even chatting or emailing back and forth with them so often triggers the voice of the Spirit to rise up in me and write. So, I can see what you mean about this being more than just a comment. This happens often in me as I read the things you share from your heart on your blogs. Paul wrote about this very thing…

“You have one Master, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who rules over all, works through all, and is present in all. Everything you are and think and do is permeated with Oneness. But that doesn’t mean you should all look and speak and act the same. Out of the generosity of Christ, each of us is given his own gift. The text for this is, “He climbed the high mountain, He captured the enemy and seized the booty, He handed it all out in gifts to the people.” It’s true, is it not, that the One who climbed up also climbed down, down to the valley of earth? And the One who climbed down is the One who climbed back up, up to highest heaven. He handed out gifts above and below, filled heaven with his gifts, filled earth with his gifts… until we’re all moving rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to God’s Son, fully mature adults, fully developed within and without, fully alive like Christ… God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love–like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love.” (Ephesians 4:5-16 MSG).

This is truly coming to pass as we take our lead from Christ daily as our only Source of things we share through our own giftings as members of His body and of one another and it is His great love that holds us together to one another and to the Head.

God bless you richly, Susanne, as you let these blessing pour through you to others!

That’s the test….loving everyone that they encounter. We will know them by their fruit or the lack thereof. Are they in the flesh for fleshes sake or are they truly in the Spirit for the Spirits sake. If there is no connection in the Spirit, run as fast as you can.

Very well put, my brother, “Are they in the flesh for fleshes sake or are they truly in the Spirit for the Spirits sake.”

Indeed, if we have no connection in the Spirit, we may still love everyone, yet true
fellowship between a mere fleshly and a spiritual believer is not possible. Truth unites, truth divides…

Thanks for weighing in again, Devon. Much appreciated! 🙂

      Love,
      Susanne

“If there is no connection in the Spirit, run as fast as you can.” There is wisdom in that!
Like Peter said, “Lord, where else shall we go, You have the words of life.” We go to where the Life of Christ is for HE is our Shepherd and we run from strangers.

Amen, Michael. I just had this experience again as I had felt pretty uncomfortable about a comment awaiting moderation on my other blog. God gently said, “Do not moderate his comments any longer.” I thought,’Okay…’ and started to read the reply, though. Immediately I felt a strong attack by the enemy coming at me as this guy had interpreted things into my writings that were not there. I felt accused and began to wonder whether he was right or not. God who saw my misery admonished me stronger now and said, “Delete it!!” I did only one second later and felt better at once. Now I am going to delete this guy from my followers so that he does not get notifications of new posts I publish any longer. If he starts to follow my blog again, I cannot change it, though. 😞

This is interesting, dear Susanne, because I just had a dream about being harshly criticized by a man that desired illicit power and was jealous of the position of serving the body of Christ that I was in. He called me all manner of nasty names to pull me down in the presence of the saints of God. You were there in the dream and tried to comfort me as did one other person who tried to help me to finish my task I was doing when I was attacked.
You did right to listen to the Lord and give this person no platform to spew his hatred and lies. I am reminded of a line from Shakespeare that is very instructive in these cases:

“The lady doth protest too much, methinks” is a quotation from the c. 1600 play “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare. It has been used as a figure of speech, in various phrasings, to describe someone’s overly frequent and vehement attempts to convince others of some matter of which the opposite is true, thereby making themselves appear defensive and insincere.” (from Wikipedia)

When someone is vested in their own “greatness” and power and we speak the truth of Christ who has ALL power and authority in the Church that His people might be set free, they react. There is an old saying, “If you throw a rock into a pack of dogs, the one that yelps is the one that got hit.” Speaking to the disciples about false Jewish authority, Jesus told the disciples, “Beware of dogs.”

I do not believe in coincidence, Michael. Your dream seems to be very rich and deep. I guess this was another (prophetic) warning from God as He gives them to us pretty often before we find ourselves completely surprised by such situations. That reminds me that Jesus told us the Holy Spirit would be prophetic as He said,

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” (Jn 16:13 ESV) [Emphasis in italics mine]

Yes, demons react when Jesus speaks. They cannot help but do so. And people will never understand that their negative reaction simply springs from their inability to hear the truth. Thus they will reject everyone through whom Jesus speaks also. This reminds me of another thing our Lord said.

“He who has ears to hear, let him hear. “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their playmates, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.” (Mt 11:15-19 ESV)

Unless God opens their eyes and ears of the heart, they cannot hear God’s voice and will those through whom God also speaks sometimes accuse of being demon possessed as they did with Jesus (see Jn 10:20).
